Sept 2006
CCAI Residency
Over a week long period we immersed ourselves in an alley between 1801 and 1805 N. Carson Street.
During that time we not only painted the entire space but became inhabitants of the space. Here we
kept warm by constructing a make-shift house, made fires to stay warm and cook food, along with met
the neighborhood.
The concept of the mural was to celebrate local Carson City bicyclist Glen Lucky. We chose Glen
not only because we are avid cyclists, but because he is an icon of determination and community
engagement. Mr. Lucky has cerebral palsy but he doesn't let that stop him. He has ridden about 40 miles
a day through heat, cold, rain and snow since he was 15 years old.
What initially started as therapy to loosen his muscles has turned into his passion. For us painting has
the same type of cathartic benefits and we wanted to truly inhabit that motivation.
