Paper on various surfaces
Animated GIF
Still life is a compilation of wheat pasted images in various forms of animation. Alone
the pieces are simple, unanimate objects employing the aesthetics of conventional street art.
However after compiling the same images consecutively it is possible to see the static images as
frames of a much larger piece; one that employs the entire city.
The intent of Still Life was to create a large-scale work that seemed simple, static, and miniscule on
its one. However, after being placed in context with the mass of images it would give the viewer a
larger appreciation and story when encountering any of the singular paperbirds on the street.
The implicit goal of Still Life was to
question the nature of memory and its fleeting quality related to personal, social, and technical
forms of preservation. Although these images become victim to their decaying environment,
so to does our desire for newer technolgoy decay the previous form of technology before it.
In this way the ubiquitous technology of today (digital/mobile camera) that allows one to make
this work possible will become as deciduous as the original artwork itself.
